Custom Fireplace Wall Unit with Integrated Media & Lighting
This beautiful home had a stunning real fireplace in the great room — but the wall around it was empty and underwhelming. The goal was to create a dramatic, functional feature wall that would frame the fireplace and anchor the entire space.
The Build
I designed and built a full custom wall unit that seamlessly framed the fireplace from floor to ceiling.
- Push-to-open doors and drawers (no visible handles)
- Clean, modern lines with hidden hardware
- Built-in shelving with center glass panels
- Dimmable LED lighting from above that illuminated each shelf and penetrated through the glass
- Integrated TV/media wing on one side of the unit
The media wing was fully functional and purpose-built:
- Dedicated component shelf
- Media storage drawers
- Built-in speaker cabinets
- Custom TV stand integrated into the wall unit
Smart Wiring Solution
Behind the TV wing, I installed concealed wiring to connect the great room system to a second TV in the kitchen. This allowed the homeowners to move between rooms without missing a moment of the big game — or whatever they were watching.
The Result
What was once just a fireplace is now a stunning architectural focal point. The unit adds warmth, storage, lighting, and fully integrated entertainment — all in one cohesive design.
