From Drab to Dazzling: A Modern Kitchen Reimagined
The original kitchen in this home was dark, underutilized, and lacked basic flow—the fridge was tucked against a wall, making it nearly impossible to open fully. The goal was to take this "homemade" look and replace it with a crisp, clean, and highly functional workspace.
The Overhaul
I began by stripping the space down, almost to the studs, removing the old cabinets, countertops, and flooring. To fix the layout issues, I performed significant utility work: moving the plumbing to center the new sink under the window, adding a waterline for an ice maker, and rerouting electrical to move the fridge to a much more accessible location on the opposite wall.
The Build
We selected a modern IKEA system, which I installed right to the ceiling to maximize every inch of storage. The new layout features deep functional drawers, a lazy Susan for corner access, and a beautiful new countertop and backsplash. To brighten the room, I installed a new ceiling track lighting system and added dimmable under-cabinet lighting for the perfect prep environment.
The Result
The space was finished with durable, waterproof vinyl plank flooring that provides the warmth of wood with the resilience a kitchen needs. The family now enjoys significantly more counter space, vastly improved storage, and a bright, inviting heart of the home.
